Top Of The Pops Magazine

Top of the pops is a magazine which BBC own. The magazine is aimed at 10 to 14 year old girls. it is promoted by the BBC as they offer exclusive behind the scenes access and brilliant free gifts with every issue. Top of The Pops magazine is a monthly issue and has been designed very much in the Smash hits moulds often resembling many other teen female magazines. It is a 56 pages A4 full colour glossy publication with the expected stereotypical female prevalence of pink adoring it pages. Top of the Pops is an entertainment magazine with celebrity gossip, music gossip, movies and teen girls advices on make up and dressing up featured in it. 


Digital Music VS CD Music
Digital Music downloading has become more and more popular as people are too lazy to go and get the physical CD copy of the Music. This means they have the advantage of the technology to download music straight onto their computer or their phones, this saves time for them however shops like HMV has lost a lot of money in business due to the fact that not that many people have been buying physical copies of films and music anymore. Public has becoming more reliable on the internet and it's different media's. In my opinion I think that Digital Music is easy to access movies and music quickly and it definitely saves time in going into to the shops and buying the physical copy but however i like to always have a physical copy as then it feels like i have actually bought their album. 



New Technology

Technology is invented each year, making all old generations technology being left behind. Before the internet was invented in the 90's, Magazines, Music and Films were all sold in shops and the only way to go and get them was to go yourself to the shops and buy them. There was no technology whatsoever in which you can just easily download it. When the internet got invented slowly and slowly the online side of Music, Magazines and Films was getting popular especially in the 2o00's. As smartphones were coming out with brand new technology, the internet developing and with social media's starting to become popular (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) to access music, music videos, clips, information about your favourite artists. 
Now, in 2012, people are buying magazine online by subscribing to it, or downloading their magazine app on their smartphone and downloading music from itunes or on the internet. There is only a few percentage of people who still go to the shops and buy magazines, Music CD's and DVD's. 
This highlights that technology has changed the way people get access into different media.

Kerrang!

Kerrang! is a UK-based magazine devoted to rock music published by Bauer Media Group. It was first published on 6 June 1981 as a one-off supplement in the Sounds newspaper. Named after the onomatopoeic word that derives from the sound made when playing a power chord on an electric guitar, Kerrang! was initially devoted to the New Wave of British  Heavy Metal and the rise of hard rock acts. In the early 2000's it became the best-selling British music newspaper. Kerrang has got many other media’s like their own radio station, Award Show, TV Channel, Own Tour, and they also have the rock charts in which they update each week. Kerrang has got many other competitive magazines like NME, MOJO and Q Magazine. 


Online vs Print

My Independent research that I am going to to do today is about online magazines versus Print magazines. 
As new technologies are coming in, all the old fashioned way of reading magazines and getting information about new music and artists and getting gossips from entertaining magazines is slowly disappearing  With new gadgets been created every single year for the new generation, everything is somehow turning digital, whether it's downloading music online to apps to help you with certain things. 
Paper and ink are slowly fading away and online applications and gadgets (e.g. iPhone, iPod, Kindle) are getting popular and popular. 
Music magazine are a huge success, and have been around for a long time to give information to all the music lovers about their favorite music/artist, however since the internet had been invented in the mid 90's and new technology being invented since then people are getting in with the trend and using online things to interact, and read magazine books and even newspapers.
The advantage of online is that it's quicker to access  it's free, and it's the new trend, however the disadvantage of online is that not many people would have not got internet as they may not be familiar with it, and that at times you cannot rely it. 
Print magazines are slowly going down and down due to the many people who are subscribed to online magazines. The advantages of print magazine is that people can actually refer back to it and read back to a certain article, make a scrapbook with all the articles in it, some people like to collect items and keep them, its more memorable, however the disadvantage of print magazine is that they do cost you and you do have to put the effort in going to a store and lucky enough find the magazine you want to read whereas on online you can just immediately get it on your phone or your tablet and read it. 




Q Magazine Research:
I am going to research about a certain magazine in which I am interested in. 
'Q' is a successfully music magazine which is published in the UK every month. Q Magazine has got music reviews, music articles news about the music industry, pictures and information about upcoming songs, albums and new music artists. 
Q magazine is one of the biggest selling music magazine in the UK, it also has it's own award show and radio station.
It's got full of information on what happens behind the scenes of someone's concerts, music gossip etc... This gets the readers attention as they want to get a magazine which is jammed pack with information for them to read and find about their favourite artist and their music. 

Q magazine has got many different artist which are from different genre's of the music industry. This makes their magazine draw specific audience each month due to the person on the front of the magazine however there is always articles and reviews on different genres like a rock band and a rappers album.
